If the news of Hostess closing its doors is driving you to hoard Twinkies, Ding Dongs, and Ho-Hos, take a break from stockpiling and try a few of the many copycat Hostess recipes posted online until the rights to make Zingers and Snowballs have been purchased by Tastykake, Little Debbie, or another mass producer of snack cakes.
Instructables user scoochmaroo has compiled a list of twelve copycat Hostess recipes, everything from Twinkies to Snowballs to loaves of bread. In particular, scoochmaroo's own Twinkie recipe is to be commended as it combines the winning recipes for best cake and best filling from the Instructables Epic 2010 Homemade Twinkie Challenge and has been taste-tested thoroughly. If you prefer one of the more obscure hostess snack cakes not on the list a quick search can find a recipe for most any of the Hostess line, including my favored Raspberry Zingers.
